The festivities began on Friday when my dear, beautiful school girls picked me up and took me to a delicious Brazilian restaurant called "Muqueca." The food was amazing. We got a couple of fish dishes and, of course, feijoada. They also had a lot of juice drinks that I haven't had since I was in Brazil, including cupuacu, my very favorite.
We then went back to Mary's house and they spoiled me with Mary-made chocolate ganache birthday cupcakes, my favorite chocolates, adorable earrings and tulips. The best part, though, was just being able to hang out with these girls. See here for more about how I feel about them. I feel so lucky to have met them.
On Saturday, we went to O'Sullivan's with our friends Laci & Christian. They just had a baby and this was Berkeley's first trip out (other than to the doctor). They gave me Chicken in a Biskit, Easy Cheese, and a country CD because they want me to get in touch with my ghetto side. Thanks, guys. I listened to the CD. I couldn't stomach some of the songs, but the old-time country I can do (Johnny Cash, Arlo Guthrie, etc.). I love Laci & Christian and now little Berkeley. They are so much fun! And who knows? Maybe by my fortieth Laci will have converted me to Demolition Derbies and Keith Urban. Although I certainly wouldn't count on it.
On Saturday, Dan and I went to the mall to go shoe shopping and then were going to meet our friends Max & Elizabeth for a movie downtown. When we were about to hop on the train, Dan said he had to poo really bad and that he was going to poo his pants. Our friends Kate & Logan live close to the train station, so we ran over there so Dan could use their bathroom. Their stairwell smelled like chocolate cake and all I could think was, "Oh great, Kate & Logan are having a dinner party and Dan's going to ruin it by breaking in and stinking up their bathroom." And then, when I walked in, everyone yelled "SURPRISE" and I was really, truly, genuinely surprised. It took me a minute to realize that Dan wasn't really going to poo his pants.
The party was a blast. We have such amazing friends here. They are funny, smart, attractive, kind and I absolutely love spending time with them.
Kate, baker extraordinaire, made a vegan chocolate cake that could beat out an egg & butter cake any day.
Leslie & Rich made me a ninja mask
I really love my face in this photo for obvious reasons.
The gang, minus Adam & Marci and Shaylyn & James, who left before we took the picture.
Today (actual birthday) will be pretty chill. Shoe shopping (for real) and tonight some hanging out with dear friends.
