Photo Booth

Dan got a new MacBook last week and my favorite feature, by far, is Photo Booth. I have to say I've taken some pretty awesome pictures of myself. Here are a few of my favorites:

Jackets and sweaters and coats, oh my!

One of the reasons why I love the fall is that I love love love jackets and sweaters.

I'm in love with this one. I like the gray color, too. Only wish it were on sale :(

Amazing House in SLC

Our friend Brad and his wife, Maeve, are selling their incredible Sugarhouse bungalow. I don't know if anyone is looking for a house, but this one is absolutely gorgeous! I wish, wish, wish we could buy it.

Mistress Witch from McClure

I've loved this song ever since Aimee introduced me to it a few months ago. Sufjan Stevens explains the background of the song in this clip (I'm always curious to find out where songs come from).

I recommend you listen to the original version, which is wonderful.

Update to previous post

Last night Dan and I went to a rally in government center for ending the genocide in Darfur. One of the speakers was Panther Dior from the film "God Grew Tired of Us." It was so weird because I finished the documentary yesterday morning and then there he was speaking (I had no idea he would be there).

If you want to find out how you can help end the genocide, go to www.savedarfur.org. After the Holocaust, we said "Never again." It's happening again.

God Grew Tired of Us

I just finished watching this documentary about the Lost Boys of Sudan. I highly recommend it. I remember hearing about the Lost Boys and this film a few months ago on Radio West, but I can't find the clip :(

Here's a trailer (don't worry - the film doesn't include the cheesy music and over the top narration that's in the trailer). It's narrated by Nicole Kidman. I love her voice.

When will we stop ignoring Africa?

Grandma Moses

So last week my parents were in town and we drove to Bennington, Vermont. The drive was lovely, even though the leaves weren't quite turning. We went to the Bennington Museum, which features several paintings by Grandma Moses.

I'm kind of baffled by Grandma Moses. Her paintings have a certain charm, but I also think that a lot of her paintings look like they were done by a five-year-old. The faces on all her subjects are just two dots and a little smiley face. She was pretty good with color and evoking a certain era and, bless her heart, she started painting when she was in her late seventies, but I don't know if that warrants her being famous and having a painting in the White House. She doesn't seem to have a clue about perspective. I'd love to hear what others think of her work; you're welcome to offer a rebuttal.

Anyway, we spent all our money seeing the Grandma Moses stuff so we didn't have enough cash to go inside the place I really would have liked to see: Robert Frost's house. Oh well, maybe next time.
