Back to School Supplies

Dan started school today. It's fun to see the Harvard campus buzzing with students again. I love September. The air has cooled off considerably and I even got to wear a sweater today! The leaves on our street are starting to go red and orange. Oh how I love New England in the fall. My parents are coming at the beginning of October and we're going to drive to Vermont to see the leaves. I've always wanted to be in Vermont at this time of year.

Anyway, back to school always reminds me of my favorite thing about going back to school: school supplies! Even though my semester started more than two months ago, I'm in the mood to buy some pens and paper.

Like every obsessive writer, I'm very particular about my pens. They have to be micro (.5). My favorite right now is the Uni-Ball Vision Exact. Black, always black. I like the thin lines and the little polka dots on the pen.

Dan introduced me to Moleskine notebooks when we met (three years ago!) and I'm convinced that they're a must-have for every writer (actually for every person who has a hand). I can't tell you how many times I've been sitting on the train or walking in the grocery store, etc., when an idea hits me and I'm scavenging for a scrap of paper in my purse to write on (I've written ideas on just about every surface you can possibly imagine). Enter the Moleskine. These little Italian notebooks are brilliant. They're small enough that you can slip one into your pocket or purse and their ultra-durable. I'm going to try out the Daily Planner in 2008.
What are your favorite back to school supplies?

Lisa, you guys sounds like a cute couple. I hope I get to meet Dan one day. Would you tell your mom hi from me? She is such a sweet lady. I miss you Lisa.

I will tell my mom hi from you. She is a sweetie. Also, Dan is a sweetie. I've told him all about you and he's excited to meet you. I hope we can come visit you in Oakland sometime. I miss you! Hello America!

I am weird about my pens too. I can NOT write with a pencil. A good pen can make my school experience better.

My new favorite school supply is my google calendar actually. I have been putting every class topic and all the readings that are due on my electric calendar and I can print them out and have them look so pretty.

I also love mini staplers.

i must always be in the back to school mood 'cause i'm always dealing with supplies (working in contracts will do that to ya). but my newest fav thing has been moving my contracts into binders. we used to have to keep them in the legal folders - which, if you have ever dealt with those, means that you have to pull out everthing in order to get to the papers at the bottom to make a copy. And someone always wanted a copy of something that was at the bottom, trust me. Same things that lawyers use - the metal prongs always get bent up and then it's impossible to get the papers off them or put them back on - i remember my dad (lawyer) using them back in the day and always having a pair of pliers handy - now i know why. so i'm extremely pleased that i can now pull out any paper i want by just flipping thru the binder. :) it's the little things in life...

I love this time of year too, Lisa! Back to school supplies are definitely part of the experience of fall. I'm so envious of your trip to Vermont -- how fun will that be!
I actually love freshly sharpened pencils. I don't really like to write with them...I just like the way they smell and look. Is that weird?
I'm going to have to look in to those Moleskin notebooks. Every receipt in my purse has chicken scratch on the back of it.
Miss you, Lisa! Can't wait to come visit as soon as I can graduate!

I am very particular about pens, too. My current favorite is thick black bold uni-ball vision Elite pens. When I'm writing notes in my scriptures I use a zebra fine point pen. But I don't like to use ball point pens for anything else. As you well know, Dad and I have an obsession with paper and pens and pencils...which will some day be your inheritance. It will be a back to school supply extravaganza when that day comes.

I've had my eye on that 2008 planner for months. It has STICKERS in the back to mark birthdays, doctors appointments, etc. Once I saw those stickers, I knew it had to be mine. So now I've just been waiting until it is close enough to the end of the year to justify getting it..
